The point is probably to get a bit of media attention and airplay to shift some tickets for the upcoming tour. The charts are not important I suppose. At least Mercury Rising has been in the top 15 of physical singles at Amazon for the last week so those that still but discs bought it.

Maybe because Giants then wouldn't have sold  - IF I'd heard this before Giants I'd have been very worried , as it was I'd ordered the B&W /Giants set anyway , but if I was someone who hadn't then heard THIS ............. . I think its one of those tracks you either love or hate , don't think there is an inbetween with this one .
All quiet ..........

Week 2 of sales for Mercury Rising and Amazon are now selling them 2nd hand for £4.20 inc. p and p

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listin ... ition=used

I have spoken to 3 record shops who I normally get my stuff through, and they were stunned that the Stranglers wasted their time on this and didn't even bother to advertise it.

2 of them even said that it's not worth stocking any Stranglers new stuff as no one wants it, they still buy 2nd hand old stuff, but refused to touch MR as there was no point and nobody knew about it. They said that The Stranglers were just making it harder for record shops to stock them ,as they felt they were taking the piss and record shops aren't a charity.

Not my words

So the single release was just to make some money but not to go for a hit?

From a download? Of a previously recorded track? Along with some tracks recorded live, to be used later for a live album?
I'm guessing they'll always make more money than they spent.

I wonder why a single wasnt released a month or so before the album. That surely would have sold better and there would have been a lot more interest in it. Like the old days when singles we always released before an album to promote the album too.

Yeah they should have done this, it worked for Big Thing Coming and was about the same time difference between new material too.
