Which is the best "Miss You"?

Post by Hangman85 » 07 Aug 2011, 18:35

Are the Stranglers the only band to have released different songs with the same titles on consecutive albums? Did JJ even remember recording the one that Roberts sang on WIR? Anyway, LET THE BATTLE COMMENCE!

I like the CDG Miss You but hate the Written in Red Miss you. In fact it's probably their worst song ever.

Completely agree! The CDG one is a bit cheesy but I have a soft spot for it. The other one is rubbish. Worst song on their worst album imo.

I like the CDG Miss You. Great lyrics, I think. Great underated song, with beautiful JJ's vocals. BTW, these were the days when the man almost stopped singing.

Always wondered if this one was dedicated to Hugh. :?:

I can't remember when or where but I've definitely read somewhere that it was about Hugh in which case it would have to be about multiple people unless Hugh was also the "bitch in a skirt"...

The WIR "Miss You" is dreadful. The CDG one is a totally different track though, JJ vocals, fairly understated but quite nice imo.

Wasn't there some keyboard sounds missing on Written in Red? Miss You on Written in Red certainly sounds like it is missing some Dave Greenfield magic!

Wouldn't be surprised. A lot of WIR sounds a bit unfinished to me and the production of the album was said to be fairly haphazard.

Really dislike the CDG version! Everytime JJ sings "ass" it makes me cringe...

Yeah, I didn't know about the WIR version. Don't recall much about that album at all. The CDG version is poor, the Stranglers really dropped their quality levels on that one. School 6 form band quality.

A lot of Dave's keyboard work was deleted by Andy Gill before final mixdown......what a cnut!!!! I think his excuse was that there was too much going on in the song!!!??? :? :( :| I heard a rough mix of this song once in Paul's car and there were a lot more keys defo.
Sir Martin Rushent: “In my experience, the longer you spend making a piece of music, the more likely it is to be a pile of shit.”

JJB: "You say we have strange keyboard parts, well, we have a strange keyboardist! What can I say?"
