Yeah, it's still got to be sitting up their sleeves in the "Encore" section (next to Sewer?) just waiting for the crowd to shout loud enough 8)

Have to agree with Gizzard on this one. From the list NMH, but the intro and wall of sound that makes up 5 Minutes couldn't be mistaken for any other band at that time. Even the video has a menacing feel to it.
Normally I wouldn't have minded.

With out a shadow of a doubt 5 minutes. The song still after all these years makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.The video still looks as nasty as it did in 78.

Definately Heroes - probably *the* anthem of all time. Mark Radcliffe played it on his radio show last week and in context (against all the other drivel on the radio) it sounds so uplifting, refreshing, melodic, a real wake up/kick in the balls !!

iconic?Well love 'em all.The choice is limited.BUT after a discussion with the Mrs(aye right) it's gotta be HEROES.Although Peaches,SBC,5 Mins,Duchess&Golden Brown all mark iconic and anthemic moments in their career.Put it this way, even the auld man who's 80 can still recall that you 'better watch out for the schoolies' AND he can recall 'ATS'.Pinnacles and landmarks throughout their career.ENJOY 8)

I have to go along with 5 Minutes. I appreciate that No more heroes and Peaches are standards and IMHO I could do without hearing Golden Brown [and Strange Little Girl] too often [Rattus Revisited gigs showed we could live without them] Just my thoughts.

I voted for Something better change, mainly because it was the song that made me a fan. I heard it as first ever Stranglers song as it became a minor hit here in Holland in late 1977. However I must say that Sewer I rate very high, it's got all the trademark Stranglers aspects! However the live versions I like more,(the studio version didn't sound as good as the other songs on Rattus) very intense!

No More Heroes without a doubt - the intro alone has iconic status and just blows me away every time I hear it...

As has been said on here before, the general public will always go with Golden Brown - "The Stranglers? Didn't they do Golden Brown?..."
