Chris Squire Of Yes dies

If there was one bass guitarist that I feel influenced JJ, both in playing and sound, it was Chris Squires. I know JJ has paid many compliments to him over the years. He only announced he was ill last month, and passed away today. Played "Roundabout" a few times this evening, to remind me ...

I think there were some rumours that he may have, ahem, "helped" with the Elastica album. Waking Up perhaps?

Bob

I'd say it's a hybrid of The Great Escape, 13 and Gorillaz.
Albarn's voice is better too - more mellow, less mockney .

Blur - The Magic Whip

I must say I'm really enjoying the new Blur album. A wide variety of songs, with plenty of interesting sounds. Proves how much Blur needed Graham Coxon back. A unique guitarist, who adds his magic to each song. And I would swear that they've sampled the bubbling synth start of "Just Like Nothin...

Re: mEt@££iC@ dropped from Glasto Festival

John Grant - breakthrough album was "Queen Of Denmark", around 2012. Raved about all of that year in "Word" magazine, so I eventually got it. He was backed by Midlake on the album, another pretty well known band. Remarkable voice. The follow up is a bit more dance orientated I be...

Re: Albums to Avoid

Sandanista - The Clash Personally I'd also avoid anything by The Beatles . Anything By The Clash. Full Stop. Along with The Stones and Primal Scream, most overrated bands of all time. As for The Beatles, that's like saying The Big Bang didn't happen Which it might not have, but it's the best theory...

StanInBlack

What a great summary of the band.
They just lost it towards the end. Who releases an album called All Live And All Of The Night, with a studio recording to end it?

Likewise, for Mk 2, calling a song "Miss You" on consecutive albums.

Absolutely spot on unbroken.
Although I'd take Norfolk Coast and Suite 16 over Apple Venus 1 & 2 any day of the week.
But that's not the real Stranglers anyway ( I know, let's not start that debate!!!)

Re: XTC... Waxworks/Beeswax... Result!

A great album indeed. Can't stop playing side 1 at the moment. And typically XTC, they keep one of their best songs off the album - Dear God - although my american version has, and I assume most version will also have it. I think Andy might disagree with it being his favourite - as it contains a rat...

Re: XTC... Science Friction.

Mummer is also my favourite album. Wasn't a great fan until Dave Gregory got involved and I think the material without him later on isn't particularly great. Drums And Wires onwards are almost perfect pop, hint of Beatles, wonderfully intermeshed guitars, and bass guitarist who always played interes...

"Relentless"

Words are pretty poignant for a funeral I'd say.
