Re: Birmingham

To my mind it's the same thing. The only difference is that the likes of Straighten Out don't pretend they're anything more than a tribute act. To quote Lt Kudo …people who have been going since the early 80s are still enjoying the gigs, they can't be fooled, it's still the Stranglers… But there ar...

Re: Birmingham

I find it strange preferring a tribute act (no matter how good), when the vastly better Stranglers are still going, but each to theIr own. To my mind it's the same thing. Spot on sir, and hopefully your back is suitably recovered for Reading, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed by either The Ruts DC or The Stranglers.

Re: Birmingham

"not the same" . Yep, that band you saw 40 years ago is very different to what it is now. Probably before Jim was even born. But yeah glad you enjoyed it. I also enjoy going to see Straighten Out in a similar way that I enjoyed seeing Cornwell, Greenfield, Black and Burnel all those years...

Re: Birmingham

That was superb. We all know the setlist, so no surprises as such, but it was well put together. Don’t Bring Harry was nicely done, the selection of 77-79 stuff was all the songs the crowd wanted to hear plus a couple of slightly deeper cuts (ok, not that deep, but not played for a while). Most of ...

Re: This current Stranglers is still The Stranglers.

The only negative comments I've seen on FB are from the gigs. Mainly along the lines of "it was good but this isn't the stranglers. I'm done". That sort of thing Jim Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk Not from what I’ve seen, must’ve looking in different groups. Most on the B.U.T. Faceb...

Good to see very positive reviews of the tour on the Facebook pages. Yes, the negative comments tend to come from those who’ve not seen them The only negative comments I've seen on FB are from the gigs. Mainly along the lines of "it was good but this isn't the stranglers. I'm done". That ...

Re: This current Stranglers is still The Stranglers.

Anyone seen Buzzcocks recently? Jim Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk I wonder if they moan " it's not the same without Pete Shelley " , previously many a moon ago " it's not the same without Howard " [emoji16] I imagine it's pretty weird with just Diggle in the band and &quo...

Re: Best MUSIC books read

A Pretty Smart Way to Catch a Lobster (the Alice in Wonderland Years) by Christian Paris - because I used to frequent the night club and go to the associated gigs. I went a couple of times, plus quite a few gigs. Enjoyed the book and have played the record regularly over the last ~35 years Have you...
