Re: Embellishments and deviations
The Shadows influence and comparison towards Hugh song writing or performance has shocked me and i have to say disappointed me as well but i have to say i cant deny its a very good strong point being made and I can see now how vocally and lead Guitar parts does kind of fit well to that suggestion. ...

Re: Embellishments and deviations
I always got the impression Ally is slowed on purpose. There's that deliberate slow build up with the lighthouse effect then Hugh trying to be the Shadows with John Ellis. Jim Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk Ýes lol....we know Hugh loves a shadows lead....take One a Million his shadows lead... ...

Re: Would you see The Stranglers without JJ?
Now Dave has gone (To me there is no Stranglers) I know that's gonna piss some people off, but Hugh and Dave to me were The Stranglers and made it for me No, i totally agree with you its certainly how i see it and that has been ever since the most prominent member Hugh Cornwell left. Now that addit...

Re: Embellishments and deviations
One of the things I love about Jet is that he does just enough, absolutely solid but gives space for the other instruments. His style is all his. What I mean by that is if you hear that clip of Tank you can tell it's Jet playing , play Toiler from another gig with Jet and you can tell it's him. I d...

Re: Embellishments and deviations
Not having that JBD, Although I would agree that that video isn’t a great example. Jet Black plodded through Toiler from about 1983 himself. I was at Ally Pally, and when they started with Toiler, I actually still remember thinking that it was far too slow. The All Live version, is another tough li...

Re: Embellishments and deviations
Jet's drumming was second to none who filled the song just perfectly being the professional he was and for sure his past jazz experinace more than shows that to be the case again and again. I think which was a completely different faze out to toiler that I love so much was his drums to the ending of...

Re: Embellishments and deviations
Blimey most bands will adjust a song a bit over the years... a little Jiggery pokery what band doesn't and especially as they are now being done by different musicians too who on the whole are playing it on the tin. If many are scrutinising bits of endings/beginning or wherever through a song to ho...

Re: Tour Blog
I don't think you can slag a blog off can you? It's just some guys opinion. Shame JJ doesn't do one. Id read that. Jim Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk I agree too with what you say Jim.... A blog is his opinion only and j think he's been open and quite emotionally honest on what he's seeing aro...

Re: Tour Epitaph
Baz's tour diary is up on the site now: https://thestranglers.co.uk/bazs-50th-anniversary-tour-diary/ What's the first thing I did? Why I found the clip of Relentless from Manchester of course. Yes it's a bit rough but shit happens. I always find the live vocal on Relentless a bit iffy - the versio...
