Glad to hear some down to earth perspectives on Iran. I agree with the above posts - the media and politicians have put so much effort into demonizing Iran that it seems to lead many people to believe that the everyday people in that country must be barbarians as well. Which is a shame, since they'r...

About Dave's technique: Judging by his organ lines such as those on the chorus of Hanging Around and the verses of Grip, doesn't it seem like he's the fastest keyboardist around? Almost inhumanly fast... I've never heard any other rock keyboardist come close to Dave's velocity ... not Ray Manzarek o...

Something similar to the Paris syndrome apparently happened in the 19th century to many Russian elite intellectual "tourists" visiting France. Apparently, after Peter the Great's francophile 'cultural revolution' in Russia, France came to be regarded by the Russian elite as the land of reason, the i...

How many true to life imposters were there of Saddam ? I seem to recollect reading that he had six dedicated doubles of his true self on his pay role. "Hanging Around" or "Was it You ?" Excellent point. I'm surprised this aspect of the whole affair doesn't get discussed more. Seems ripe for conspir...

Summat's my choice. It actually sounds like the Stranglers back when they were in top form. After that.... Hell, these two options are simply not enough. I can think of at least 20 Stranglers tracks with completely memorable, unique basslines: Sometimes, Sewers, Tank, Sleazy, Sweden, Death and Night and Blood, Ice, Loss Angeles, Baroque Bordello, etc. etc. But given the choices available, I'd pick Peach...

Black and White - it offers what in my view is the best mix of balls-out rock and total wierdness. Some of the most creative basslines as well.

After that it would have to be Raven and Rattus.

But I hold all of the records up to (though not including) Dreamtime in very high regard.

Thanks for all the welcomes people. RE Alias: Not sure about Stranglers fans in the the Czech Republic. I didn't meet too many during my time there, but anything's possible, so I just wanted to check. However, I'll tell you two countries where you won't find many fans: The US - I've literally met ex...

In my view, one factor that seems to have been quite destructive in their career was their decision to pussify their rhythm section - a decision which appears to have been quite concious if you have a look at their '80s work. JJ toned down his massive, ripping bass tone and virtually abandoned his t...

Hello Stranglers forum

As prompted, I'm posting to introduce myself.

In addition to the Stranglers, I'm into a lot of other classic post-punk bands such as Wire, GoF and the Ex.

BTW, any fans here from the Czech Republic or Germany?

Just curious.
