Re: Pearl Jam
My favourite band. Absolutely incredible live and their environmental and social political activism is to be lauded. More punk than many punk bands.

Re: Best Intros to songs from other bands
Jet Boy - New York Dolls New Rose - The Damned (there's a really good version by the Brian James Gang on You Tube) Gudbuy T'Jane - Slade (any Glam Rock really as most of it was built around the intro) Trouble Is the Day - Chelsea That's a great shout. Haven't played that for years. I'll have to go ...

Don't know if it has been posted but the Damned are on tour supporting Motorhead in November. Girlschool are on the bill too.

Re: Hawkwind
I was at the Black Sword gig at Hammersmith too. Hawkwind are OK now but Space Ritual/Hawklords are miles better. Nik Turner has been smart and put together a band consisting of everyone Brock has pissed off over the years and they have that 70's Hawkwind vibe down to a tee!

Not sure what sound you are looking for but I use a SansAmp Bass Driver with my Precision and Ashdown Mag300. A great range of sounds from the perfect JJ impersonation all the way up to Lemmy-type growl.

Cheers Paul, had a Trace Elliot until I got the Ashdown. Got a good growl from the Trace but it wasn't loud enough for my needs. Equally an extra cab would be too much for the kind of gigs I am doing (12Bar etc). I probably need some form of pre-amp to boost things. Generally I don't like overdrive ...

Re: first gig
Everyone has some awesome first shows. Mine was a free show in London April 1978 with the Clash/TRB/X Ray Spex/Steel Pulse. I keep EVERYTHING and still have the program from the day. The Clash were my band to follow after that show and caught about 20 more shows before leaving England in Nov. 1980....

Bass Sound Advice Needed
and where better to ask than on a Stranglers board?! I recently bought an Ashdown C210T Bass Combo and whilst it is a great amp it seems to lack a bit of drive. Whilst I'm not going for that all out attack of the B&W bass sound something closer to The Raven type sound is what I am looking for. I...
