Yeah, I'm curious as to what they're hearing in this.

That's what I hear...
Wee bit of familiarity in the lyrics too

They say they want my body but they can't touch my soul
I am gonna keep my distance, man, and play some rock and roll

It doesn't sound anything like "(Get a) Grip (On Yourself)", if anything it sounds like Bruce Springsteen collaborating with whoever does the music for CBeebies. Also, I'm quite sure Hugh Cornwell didn't invent the phrase "play some rock and roll"

Yes I do hear it actually from 2.06 and I'm usually loathe to link songs together.

Personally, I think this track sounds far more directly influenced by The Stranglers. The slamming bass and those gnarly off-the-wall guitar parts are all present and correct, and I suppose the organ sound could be considered to be almost Greenfieldian in approach.

So when you listen to The Stranglers (1977-1990?) you are hearing and thinking of Rick Astley?
That says a lot.
