ANTIVIRUS 7 - WARNING AND HELP NEEDED!
I thought I should bring this to the forums' attention.
Whilst surfing the web the other day, up popped a window informing me that i needed to take 'immediate action' as our computer had just received a virus. As this warning seemed authentic (being similar in appearance to our AVG), I followed its advice and performed its scan which detected 22 'trojans' amongst other nasties. Following this, I was prompted to download a program in order to delete them, and after doing so was asked to select a payment method - something which raised the alarm. At this stage I decided to close the window but the damage was already done. This so called 'antivirus' is a virus itself, and a fucking nasty one too. It raises a false warning, performs a false scan and, once downloaded, begins eating away at your computer and all its stored software. Our AVG detects nothing but an additional anti-malware program has found over 500 infested items since downloading this shit.
We've searched the web and found quite a few programs to remove this but the bastard wont let us download them. It either blocks them at the download stage or switches the computer off completely. We would therefore appreciate any advice on how to get rid of this thing - or the address of the person who sent it!
Thanks guys n gals, and remember the name..... ANTIVIRUS 7

Malware Bytes - do a search download and do a scan
Incidently, about 2 weeks back something emailed all my contacts from my Gmail account at 4.30am on a Sunday morning - Needless to say I wasn't online at the time and my laptop is clean as a whistle. So even when you protect your machine there's still nasty shit in your email etc.

Re: ANTIVIRUS 7 - WARNING AND HELP NEEDED!
My daughter got this on her PC. Seems it came from following a link on Facebook.
Wouldn't let he visit any websites except for the bogus anti-virus site. More and more warnings appeared, one on top of the other to try and panic the user. None of the programmes worked, and AVG did not pick it up (which it wouldn't as it was malware not a virus).
The only way I could get her PC back under control was to google the malware on another (clean) PC, download some software to remove it, and then change some of the settings in Windows (it messed up the internet settings to ensure you couldn't visit any other sites). Took hours to make the PC safe again.
