The Wurzels cover The Stranglers. (Ooh ar ooh array)

Post by saminblack »

We all know the connections between The Stranglers and The Wurzels run pretty deep so I guess we shouldn't be surprised by this. The Wurzels are doing (wait for it....)

Golden Brown.

What a thought...

The press release...

NEW ALBUM – ‘A LOAD MORE BULLOCKS’ - OUT 13th JUNE

(BRINGING A SMILE TO MUSIC)

To coincide with their return to the Glastonbury Festival this year the Wurzels have recorded a new album ‘A Load More Bullocks’. The famous Scrumpy-and-Western band have put their distinctive ‘west country’ stamp on this fine collection of classic contemporary hits. Take That’s ‘Up All Night’, Nickelback’s ‘Rockstar’, Pulp’s ‘Common People’ and The Stranglers’ ‘Golden Brown’ have all been Wurzelised. Other notable highlights include The Fratelli’s ‘Chelsea Dagger’, Spinal Tap’s ‘Sex Farm’ and the first single - a stunning version of Kaiser Chiefs’ ‘Ruby’.
They'll be called the survivors..you know why?....cos they're gonna survive

I take it that's why the Stranglers are playing Glasto, Eavis really wanted the Wurzels and had to give the lads a slot or there'd be no

Golden Brown - me field full oh wheat
Seeds chucked down - the process complete
We tilled until night - now wait for Sunlight
Rain's pouring down - helps our Golden Brown

Every crop - just like yon last
Work non-stop - sort wheat from the chaff
Scythe in me hand - we harvest the land
The scrumpy I downed - vomits Golden Brown

Golden Brown - bloody fine mess
Infestation - forgot the wee pests
CD in the shops - makes up for the loss
Our Yokelised sound - ruins Golden Brown

Blimey have I always hated the Wurzels! But you know what, even with their smelling of cider and farm animals and hay, they're almost a breath of fresh air into British pop music and they get my vote. Good luck to em, that album sounds a a real blast
Think I'll go for a stroll in the trees.
