Magazine - as good as the Stranglers

Post by kenl »

I saw Magazine in 2009/11 and remember being blown away by how good they were. The reception they received in Glasgow after the first song was just amazing.

So, is this https://youtu.be/u3xhz_SPejk?feature=shared as good as the Stranglers at their best?

Very, very close for me. Thoughts...

Also check out their full gig from Manchester 2009.

Phenomenal band, their first three albums are probably not beaten by any other artist (although a few do come close). And as you say, great live, including with Noko on their reformation.
Then I got tired of counting all of these blessings, and then I just got tired.

I have both Real Life and Secondhand Daylight on vinyl and love both immensely, particularly Secondhand Daylight's combination of Adamson's bass, Formula's synths and Devoto's creepy vocals. I'm not as keen on their third album as others are, though.

Unfortunately for them... ahead of their time. Although I liked a few of theirs back then it's only 'recently' that I've realised how good they were.

Not a bad little recent interview with Mr Formula https://www.mixcloud.com/FrenchSpurs1/glop/

No problem. Found the visage stuff quite interesting. I knew he'd had little involvement on Fade To Grey.
