Re: 1st STRANGLERS GIG
1st gig Glasgow Apollo Nov 81- I was in the circle and was a bit disappointed overall. Remember it was recorded for Radio Clyde and the La Folie letters moving about on the stage. I remember thinking they were posers going through the motions a bit. Then I caught them again in 1985 only this time in the stalls and what a difference. Real passion from the band- JJ setting about one of the bouncers seats on fire and a young boy I knew locally with his face bloodied after being attacked by a bouncer saying. This is fucking magic. I remember a blistering SBC and an atmosphere like an old firm game. Never To Look Back!!!

Re: 1st STRANGLERS GIG
I was there, tickets cost £2.50. I was 16 years old. I'm ashamed to admit that I bought 2 tickets and flogged the other one for £5. I was a shopkeepers daughter, what do you expect - its about making a profit. It covered the cost of my ticket, my train fare from Caerphilly, two cans of cider, 10 consulate and a packet of wrigleys. Those were the days eh!TWO SUNSPOTS wrote:I was thinking last night about the 1st time that i saw the Stranglers....
It was in the Top Rank,Cardiff in 1978.......
What with getting old, i seem to remember that they only played for about 30 minutes, and that included an encore........Does anybody else remembre this or am i just going senile?
I vaguely recall the events I wasn't a good drinker in those days. I remember"Go buddy Go" & "Peaches ",being crushed into the barrier got spat on so many times, people throwing cans on the stage, Hugh spitting back at them, being snogged by some guy with acne, then passing out and being dragged out by security guys. I'm sure The Skids were supporting. In answer to your question I think it was more than 30 minutes.
It wasn't you that snogged me was it ?
