The next leader of The Labour Party should be...
... Dan Jarvis
Ever heard of him? He's one of the few politicians around who seems honest, trust worthy and not mad. I'd vote for him.

Wasted opportunity....

...locked away. Anyone who takes on that poisoned chalice is mad. We will have a Tory government until 2020 at least.

First time I saw him on TV I thought he could be a leader.saminblack wrote:Chukka Umunna - new generation, fresh ideas and someone capable of giving back hope to those of us feeling pretty hopeless since Thursday...
If I was him, I'd wait a bit though. Let someone cock it up a bit more!

I am afraid with all respect it makes no difference who or what leader they elect.I fear labour are doomed at least for the next 10 years and maybe forever. The reason's the demographic has changed in the country Ie:former working class Labour voters have become tory voters in a large enough volume to ensure Labour cannot ever get a majority,Ukip also have take votes from Labour,Scotland is now in almost total SNP control which has cost Labour even more seats. So If you add up all those reasons and the fact that Britain has swung to the right.I cannot realistically see how Labour can ever win a majority.I wish the new leader all the best when elected. But I think It's a poisoned chalice.Sorry to be to negative, but that's the way I see things.
Of course alot could happen over the next 5 years. But I really don't envy the new leader when they are elected.

Re: The next leader of The Labour Party should be...
I disagree there but what the hell, I don't know anything. LAbour were fecked due to the Scotland issue at present - Milliband was on a hiding to nothing. If he'd said he would work with the SNP then he would have lost even more votes in England than he did, and if he said No, which he did, then that was the Scottish vote fucked for a long time. As soon as the 'Scottish Lion' got laryngitis last year and voted to keep the union, some of the clverer press were saying Labour were fooked in Scotland. They were right. I hoped I was getting it all wrong last year, and that Labout would need to suffer a fair bit more before coming good again... I also thought Milliiband would lose badly, but I was hoping all along that the present coalition were so rancid that Labour would have a big say in the election.
In the end, Labour still are the second strongest party with millions of voters. They sank even lower than their enemies hoped, for me now it really is 'the only way is up'. Fresh start and all that, so for me the new leader should be Burnham... and I know I'm far from the only one who thought that right back to his speech at Anfield in memory of the Hillsborough victims. And another candidate I would consider backing if I was in the party, would be Sarah Champion. It needs someone strong and who trusts their own counsel, too much fucking spin all these years had made half of them dizzy, distracted and dismissive of what Labour really stands for, they need to build on the old values, change the unedifying ones and expand on policies that the electorate want. And don't deny their fuck ups of the recent past. IMHO.

Think I'll go for a stroll in the trees.
