Bit of a sad loss to the Edinburgh music scene as its been a decent venue to see bands over the years.

It wasn't ideally placed for getting the last train either???
Edinburgh Playhouse doesn't host gigs anymore either.
With a better variety of venues, Glasgow is the choice of city when touring acts come to Scotland.
The Arches, The Garage, The Barrowlands, O2 ABC 1&2, O2 Accademy, Concert Hall, Armadillo and now the Hydro.

I went there to see the Stranglers a few years ago and thought it was a great venue and the gig was one of the best gigs I've been to.Shame for folk in the capital,Glasgow has loads of concert venues thankfully.Didn't know the Playhouse has stopped hosting gigs,great venue too.
I'm not gonna cry i bet he hit that water high

That will probably mean the band will just book the Dunfermline Alhambra from now on. They seemed to rotate it each year from The Picture House one year to The Alhambra the next. It's a shame the Playhouse seems to be used mainly for musicals and Opera nowadays. I did see Ultravox there in 2009 so it still has the odd gig but nothing like it used to. Saw my first Stranglers gig at the Playhouse in 1981, great venue.

Was there in 2011 and 2013 good venue ideally located for various hostelries , big shame ... Surely a city of the stature of Edinburgh should have 2 or 3 decent venues

Sad to hear this news i have only been the once to see the stranglers in 2011 on the black and blue tour and i enjoyed it more than the venue in Glasgow.
