What was the tank one called which had similar line graphics (in green) to Asteroids? Tank Battle or Command or something like that...

The game was called Battlezone......

As for the original topic, it was MC for me.
I could never get to grips with the controls on Asteroids - as soon as the spaceships appeared, I was dead
Missile Command was one of the first (maybe THE first) to use the rollerball to move the crosshair about and was much more responsive than buttons or a joystick. I used to play this down the local chippy and crowds would gather as I got on to the later levels where you had to spin the ball across the screen as fast as you could, firing missiles as you went, leaving a big line of explosions.
Of course once the explosions had died down and you were out of ammo, you were still left with a load of their missiles raining down on your cities. Dead again
I'll get my anorak

I quite liked Phoenix. Had good sounds e.g. The Barrier.

Phoenix was indeed a great game, and along with asteroids (my choice) missile command and defender ,was how i wasted a lot of time (and hard earned) at The Alma pub in the late 70s and early 80s.........aaaah the memoriesFreddie Laker wrote:I went for Asteroids, as I was much better at that.
I loved Missile Command, but like so many other things in life, it was tricky to master (particularly with audience pressure) and always seemed to be over too quickly.
My favourite at the time was the one where those birds used to swoop around - I think it was called Phoenix.
well that was amazing, its taken him all day to learn that bass solo

Voted for Asteroids but was a lot better at Phoenix.
Anyone remember Scramble ? flying your ship through tunnels,Shooting things, collecting fuel and having to avoid upward firing missiles as well as many other flying enemies etc.We had one of these in our local chippy.
Defender to just too damm so didnt waste much time or money on that !
Favourite game of all time would be Frontier and currently play Runescape online a lot.
