Magazine @ Bridgewater Hall
Knowing the amount of interest in Magazine on this forum, I thought this gig was worth a new thread.
So August 29th Bridgewater Hall, Manchester, myself and Tuneless have just booked anybody else 'avin it?
Never been to this all seater venue before, but I am really looking forward to something a little different from my normal gig experience (think we may have to behave for this one).

Re: Magazine @ Bridgewater Hall
I heard it was good and in the second half everyone stood at the front.

They certainly did Jim. The gig was in two parts. The first was the playing of the whole "Soap" album with Howard reading from a phamplet in between songs about how best to look after your record collection. The crowd were all sat for this first part under the stifling control of the security and house rules of the Bridgewater Hall (no standing, taking drinks in, not being able to re-enter the hall if the band are mid song etc).theraven1979 wrote:I heard it was good and in the second half everyone stood at the front.

After a 15 minute break the band came back on with a "Hits" set and slowly but surely the crowd took over particularly in a brilliant "The Light Pours Out of Me". By the last few numbers pretty much the back of the hall was empty with all dancing away down the front and security looking very nervous. Disappointingly there was no "Shot from both sides". I don't know if it was planned not to play it or whether the set was cut short due to the "rowdy" audience. Whatever, despite the venue not being ideal, Magazine were brilliant and I believe are working on new material for next year.!

Cheers Steve!
Well, I'm kinda glad I missed this gig but all the same...still sounds almost unmissable One of those gigs I'm sure that people who attended will talk about for many years to come.As long as they're not dead

Re: Magazine @ Bridgewater Hall
Magazine were excellent as they have been each time I have seen them this year.
However seated gigs are certainly not for me but it is none the less a venue Manchester is rightly proud of.
Oh and I finished the night stood right next to the stage, bang in front of Barry Adamson (how cool is that guy?) and ended up with his setlist:

Yeah and what a great sound that is too, youcan't beat a bit of vinyl crackle.

Re: Magazine @ Bridgewater Hall
I filmed The Light Pours Out Of Me from upstairs and as you can see at the beginning of the song there are only 2 people up dancing but by the end there were loads up, i think the security gave in, in the end, i also filmed the final track Give Me Everything by which time quite a few people who were sat upstairs near us had gone downstairs to join in the frolics
