You and I nearly agree on this Gizz - I don't mind a bit of early Oasis in small doses, but Radiohead...surely the worst band ever (though Arthur's call of Keane does come in a very close second).gizzard wrote:Number one must be either Radiohead or OasisArthur Streeb-Greebling wrote:Worst bands ever ...nickinblack wrote: Que?

I saw the B-52's years ago when they were touring for that Love Shack album.
During Rock Lobster, Fred Scheinder has a small inflatible lobster with him. Someone ran on stage, took it and made their way back to the floors.
Damn band stop playing, and Fred threatened to walk off until he got his toy back.
B-52's put the pomp in the pompous.

Yep got my ticket for the roundhouse. Fan since '80 and never seen them. New album's not bad for their 'MK2' years, though maybe not as consistent as Cosmic Thing. The best is 'Wild Planet' (better than debut IMO) so I hope they do some off there.
They became quite big didn't they and their sound got more polished... can't really beat the tunes with Ricky Wilson on guitar for that true essence. Didn't his guitars have the G string missing or something...
Glad they're coming over.

Just back from the Carling Accademy in Glesgae.
Having never been an 'ardent' fan, I went with an open mind.
This was one I'm glad I didn't miss, musically they were excellent.
A very female orientated audience(60/40), which ,how shall I say it?, restrained the audience participations a tad.
Not being a devotee I can't give a full set list but they played all the usual 'rent-payers' Planet Eclair, Cock Lobster, Private Idaho, Party out of Bounds, and, not one of my favourites 'Love Shack', which turned out to be the highlight of the night as it's a million times better live than on record. Plenty off the new CD as well.
Would I go to see them again, probably not, but well worth seeing this once.

"They don’t come much better than The Stranglers when performing live; there is no pretence, no hiding place, just superb music"

seen them a few times over here in the states over the past couple of years including this year and its always a good fun atmosphere and have met the infamous Fred in a casino of all places and he was actually a real good laugh- he has a radio show here on satellite radio on a friday night and he has played the stranglers quite a few times along with lots of other stuff that you would not think - dead kennedys ,Rancid ,even the anti nowhere league
the new cd Funplex is actually pretty good - got some raw guitar on it and funny double entendre lyrics .
And I gotta say that for intro music aside of WIB (natch) planet claire is about one of the best .
a good fun band
