Firstly - which one in UB40 is Ali ? I never liked UB40 very much and still don't . The Specials I liked , Madness were a pretty good singles band , but UB40 I didn't like .
Politics in music has been around a long time , I think it probably came to the fore in punk( Dylan did it long before punk though to name but one ) and continued with ska . The Clash , well , though I was a punk and loved most punk music ....The Clash didn't do it for me beyond their second album , politically I would rate The Jam as sharper and musically as well .
I notice there aren't many politically aware bands these days though .....is it that current generations aren't bothered ?

Didn't mind one or two of their early tracks, and I have a small collection of reggae stuff, but I thought they were a bit wanky really.
I tried to make him laugh, He didn't get the joke, and then he said I wasn't right in the head.

It, to me was far stronger than anything The Clash ever said.

Anyway, just thought I'd let you know that - I know some will gun me down for talking about The Clash like that - But fuck it -
Well, let's face it, he asked for this........

Never could stand them. You either like that sorta thing or you don't - I thought the rhythm section lacked bollocks.
If Dave was to use a Hammond L100 for just one more gig I'd die content.

Some of their early stuff ain't bad - The Labour of Love albums are not to be sniffed at really - not my cup of tea but I wouldn't knock someone for been into them. I had a bootleg live cassette of theirs from an early gig and it was ok

That early official live album was good with the Frankenstein cover. Great horn section to One in Ten.

Can't remember. I've got it on cassette but it's in storage.
