Just got the new album today... I'll let you know what I think later
Can't you see can't you see that you're rocking the boat?
Re: Devo now
Devo are penciled in to appear this Wed on THE COLBERT REPORT, a humorous faux news show here in the States. Colbert is an acquired taste that I've never acquiered, mostly because he follows the superior DAILY SHOW WITH JON STEWART, whom I suspect is the sharpest comic mind on US telly (...yeah, yeah, I know, big deal...)

Re: Devo now
For Doninblack...............
'Something For Everybody' is quite simply the best DEVO album in 20 years.
OK, it's the only album they've made in the last 2 decades but that's not the point. I reckon on the whole it's what 'Suite XVI' and 'Grave Disorder' are to The Stranglers & The Damned respectively. Full of nods to the past with snippets/samples of tracks from days gone by but all mixed up in a fresh, modern, meaty, beefy big & bouncy sound that makes it one of my favourite dance albums of all time.
Yes, I said "dance album". We're still on the 80's kind of electro pop/dance Devo disco vibe with this album (for want of better words) so it's not some kind of 'Are We Not Men?' or 'Duty Now For The Future' re-visited. This new release may not be popular amongst fans of the early stuff only.Be warned. However, for spuds who continued to follow and enjoy the band after the 70's, this album must surely be good news!
To be honest, listening to a few samples from the album on my laptop didn't particularly excite me. Neither did my first listen in the car which I have to admit I wasn't giving the album the full attention it deserves. However, sticking the CD in my hi-fi (do people still say hi-fi?) at home was a different story. Some decent volume and sound quality opened my ears somewhat!
Basically the album starts off very well with 'Fresh' (the single/download) and continues at this pace for another 3 tracks. All good so far, nothing amazing but great solid stuff nevertheless. Two more tracks (Human Rocket & Mind Games) follow which are pretty standard fare for DEVO,tracks that remind me of the dull DEVO of the mid/late 80's. After which the benchmark is raised I'm pleased to say.
The second half of this album is fucking fantastic. From the tite track right until the end we have some of the catchiest, classic tunes that DEVO have ever recorded. Gerald V. Casale steals the show vocal wise especially on the superb 'Nowhere Like Home' (brings a tear to my eye) but even better is 'Later Is Now'. Simply stunning,a classic by anyone's standards imho and I just can't get this song out of my head.
8/10 is my rating. Luv it

Thanx for the review TBC. Glad the Spuds haven't disappointed. I think I'll get this CD, in a record shop, if I can find one.

Re: Devo now
Heard the single on the radio a few times and it's not bad - gonna give the album a spin tomorrow.
