Reggae
In the Song By Song book they say that Peaches was the band trying to do reggae. I think it captures the roughness or the feel of some of the best reggae. I don't like much white man reggae (e.g. Sting, Clapton, Rolling Stones, Lilly Allen) but I do like Ian Dury's Lullaby For Francis, and Don't Break By Heart by UB40.
Obviously there are legends like Jimmy Cliff that are still touring but does anyone know a decent new band that you can go and see plays reggae music now? Or has it pretty much died out?

Re: Reggae
There's lots of new music called 'reggae' but most of it seems to be the modern 'Drum'n'Bass' and 'Dancehall' influenced stuff.
Many of the old original artists (like Jimmy Cliff as you mentioned) still do shows if you want 'Old School'.
And you say you don't like 'white boy' reggae but I would check out Ruts DC.

Am very much into 'old' reggae (early Lee Perry, Prince Buster, Marley until the mid 70s) etc. Lovely tunes and great great bass sounds.

Friend of mine is a big fan of Prince Fatty. Who is neither a prince, nor overweight, or so I'm told.
I can't help getting old. I just refuse to grow up.

Re: Reggae
I mixed this for another Stranglers fanatic and as she says quiet rightly "Punk mixed with Reggae" She sent me the Reggae track and I mixed it with Peaches. But the best thing I like is the comments. Negative and positive, bring it on. The fckn hard neck of bradleyheesom was the best tho. Said I just killed "Peaches". That guy has subscribed to the XFactor on Youtube. Sorry mate you've just killed your street credibility. Get A grip !

Re: Reggae
Cheers, I liked all the recommendations, thanks.
Of course there are lots of other white reggae things I love including some Clash stuff, Joe Strummer doing Harder They Come, Graham Parker doing Problem child and Elvis Costello doing Detectives. There are many others I've just forgotten about. Maybe someone should bring out a CD "The Best White Man Reggae Album in the World Ever"
The most curious Stranglers related mash up (or whatever they're called) I ever heard was The Beach Boys singing Sloop John B over Skin Deep - it worked really well.

I ,also, appreciate the vintage stuff. A Desmond Dekker comp was my veryfirst CD purchase, still enjoyed to this day.
Reggae, like so many artforms, has been corrupted by the 'net. All copy off each other.
