There's been quite a few over the years and in all honesty I've probably forgotten more than I'll ever know!
Then it struck me like a lightning bolt! Of course!
The first proper* gig I ever attended.
And that was:
Devo at the Hammersmith Odeon in Dec 1978.
supported by The Members.
I remember being really exicted by the whole experience; Going to hammersmith on the Piccadilly line, seeing all the punks and new wavers,
spotting stars - Paul and Steve from the pistols (Hugh was there I believe, although I didn't see him)...
First up the members were really great, I seem to remember one of the guitarists rolling on the floor like a loon during one number...
On to the main act - They played a short film first, which just seemed so far out and weird...
Then Devo came on and just blew everyone's mind, 'Too Much Paranoia' made an impression on me, they were just wrenching the strings right off the guitar!
Most of the first album was played as well, superb!
When they ripped their yellow suits off the crowd went berserk (in their seats...), I managed to get a shred of Devo suit, which I took home and displayed on my bedroom wall next to the ticket stub!
'Words get Stuck in My Throat' got totally stuck in my head and we were singing it on the tube on the way home...
At this time I believe Devo were truly on it and light years ahead of the game!
A blinder of a gig!
Cheers to Alexinblack for triggering the memories 8)
P.S. *Proper gig, as in one where tickets were held and band was seen/unlike Battersea Park where I watched Spizz through a chain-link fence and had to bugger off before the main event :(
A great story mate.

A couple that stand out are :
Pixies - Town & Country Club London, 1989. I remember coming away from the gig thinking that it was best gig I'd ever been to. Every song was brilliant. The mosh bit was mad but good natured. I don't think they'd released Doolittle by this point so it was just songs from Come on Pilgrim and Surfer Rosa.
The Damned - 10th Anniversary 'Tea Party' at a tent in Finsbury Park, 1986. The Fall and New Model Army were also on the bill. This was only my second ever gig. I can still remember the football chants of "Sensible's a wanker - la la la la"

The Damned, Glasgow Penthouse, 28th December 1983. Brilliant night in a small venue above the Glasgow Apollo.
Hugh - "We had gangs of skinheads coming along trying to cause problems and stuff"
Rick Wakeman - "How did you deal with it?"
Hugh - "Our bass player used to jump off the stage and beat the shit out of them!"

'The Great British Music Festival', Wembley Arena, Wednesday 29th November, 1978.

Bernie Torme (featuring Skid Marx), Patrik Fitzgerald, The Pirates (Johnny Spence, Mick Green, Frank Farley), Slade (!), Generation X, The Jam...

A superb day.

Easy. Gary Numan's 3 farewell shows at Wembley in 1981. Even though each show was sold out he lost £750,000 (in 1981 lol) due to all the lights and special effects involved. Whilst they were setting up the gear, someone found out that there was a disused swimming pool underneath Wembley Arena so they filled it with banks of amps! I still remember to this day how all my internal organs shook around to the sound and feel of all those analogue synths. Very emotional too.

I'd say probably my very first gig, just after I left school and started work. I went with my school mate to see the 'Wailers' (Bob Marley)
at the London Lyceum Theatre, it was the night that the 'Rolling Stones' mobile recorded the live single 'No Woman No Cry' and the album 'Bob Marley & the Wailers LIVE' the atmosphere at this, my first ever concert... was f*ckin electric... and Marley's stage persona was incredibly powerful and hypnotic... there was so much weed fumes in the auditorium, floating above the audience... that after I left the gig... I noticed I had Chinese eyes and was grinning my head off, and trying to hunt down somewhere to buy munchies... and I didn't even puff in those days.
