How good are TALKING HEADS?

Post by ThruBeingCool »

In recent years I've been getting into bands from my youth who I didn't quite appreciate enough or paid attention to the first time around. The band I've been discovering this year is TALKING HEADS. Mainly down to the fact that you can pick up their albums re-released in cinema sound (or whatever you call it) for a bargain on Amazon. I'm on my 5th album now and I have to say that some of their music is classic stuff. Alot of it is average too I might add.

Anyone else like Talking Heads and if so what do you consider to be essential listening? So far I've acquired;

'77
Speaking In Tongues
Remain In Light
Fear Of Music
More Songs About Buildings & Food

Anything else of interest?

I'm not big on American bands but Talking Heads have got to be one of the best that's come out of America. Go for "Little Creatures" and "True Stories" next. The track Television Man from Little Creatures is a personal favourite. Fckn superb !!!!

Funny you mention this as I just stuck Fear of Music back on my iPod - I forgot just how good "Air" is.

Not done much wrong, ever. So to answer your question - VERY :grin:

They're one of THE bands I regret never seeing play live - not sure I've even had the chance - right up there with not seeing XTC, the (original) Pistols, Pink Floyd.
Think I'll go for a stroll in the trees.

I did a few gigs I maybe wished I'd done differently - there was a time either The Jam or SLF were playing in Brum , same night as The Exploited - I went to The Exploited . Discharge on the same night as SLF another year - I saw Discharge ( GBH supporting ) .
As for Talking Heads - I don't know much about them one way or another - I know a few of their popular songs and thats about it . When it came to US punk - I got into Dead Kennedy's first . Actually might have been The Ramones I missed for Discharge . D'oh .
All quiet ..........

Talking of XTC, what's happened to them? Have they called it a day? I really hope not.
