Can't wait Jim - love em. There is just soooo much more to Dexys that dancing to Come on Eileen at your cousin's wedding.
We had some lively debates on this site before about them (I recall there are many non-believers!) but I maintain that they are one of the great British bands of all time and their third album - Don't Stand Me Down - is one of the best albums ever made. Tis a work of genius.
'Head' Dexy Kevin Rowland is an eccentric, maverick, inspired, creative and genuinely original artist who just happens to be an astonishing songwriter. All those triats could of course also be applied to The Stranglers - and they too have been known to wear dresses too (see Rain and Dole and Tea pic sleeve!)
Yep. can't wait to hear the new album.

Re: Dexys
....oh and they are incredible live too. Saw them twice and the way they performed two songs in particular - their own amazing This Is What's She's Like and their unforgettable cover of Respect - will stay with me forever.

Re: Dexys
I'm very much in the "Don't Stand Me Down" camp as opposed to the gypsy fiddle effort. That said the early docker's with a brass section is pretty fine as well.

Yep, saw them in 2003 at The Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. Brilliantly theatrical performance. They've put up the 1st 2 mins of a new track on Youtube - sounds great to my ears.

NO NO NO NO . Hate them , think they were a vile band with an obnoxious singer ( I know , I lived opposite him in the early 80's ) . The only thing I would less look forward to is a Annie Lennox album or UB40 . Dreadful bands the lot of them .
All quiet ..........
