XTC '77

Post by Burn e 77 »

As with previous posts about New Wave Bands in '77, Adverts, Buzzcoks and Ruts, I've just been listening to another Bootleg from the same year '77,
XTC in Germany... Its pure energy and melody combined with great lyrics... Science Friction is still a great tune 34 years later, really original manic
keyboards and a middle eight that puts most bands in the shade in 2011, anyone else on this forum into them.

Xtc were a superb, expecially up to Black Sea.

Lucky enough to see them on a few occasions including what may have been their last ever UK date in Cardiff.

Have a couple of great bootlegs from around 78/79 from the radio and mixing desk which i listen to regularly.

Great band - although I'm probably more into 80s onwards.

Hello to theraven1979 and TWO SUNSPOTS,
Neat to hear your opinions of XTC during different periods of time, did you both ever get a chance to hear their Psychedelic offshoot band called The Dukes of Statosphere?
I believe in this incarnation they sold more albums than as XTC, very talented musicians and intelligent lyrics, and strangly very English!

PS Maybe my XTC Bootleg should make its way over to Dom P if he would like to work his magic.

I had two of The Dukes lps at one time or other but couldn't really get into them although both had some good tracks.
I agree that XTC were/are very talented musicians and superb song writers.

For me the best song writers of my favourite era (76-80) were Ian Dury, Xtc, Buzzcocks & Joe Jackson.

Hello TWO SUNSPOTS,
I agree with you, the Artists you mention above were miles ahead of a plethora of new bands around '77 - '80, Ian Dury especially! Did you ever get into early Cosello on Stiff records? Trax like... Pump it up, Chelsea or Watching the Detectives?

Hello TWO SUNSPOTS,
Those tapes with the Attractions on them sound rather tastey, i always liked their live keyboard sound at early gigs,
and one of my favourite gigs was Ian Dury & Blockheads at the Lyceum... do any tapes exist of his shows?

Cheers

The Dukes stuff was reissued fairly recently - Some good stuff on there. I can't get away from Skylarking, NonSuch and Oranges and Lemons.
