Public Image Limited!

Re: Public Image Limited!
Got a phone call from this gig whilst having building surveyer around to admire the sturdiness of my joists. Couldn't make the gig after all....time, tide and loft extension quotes wait for no man. Lydon sounded in full fettle to me from what was audible.

Re: Public Image Limited!
I saw the PiL gig on the first night at the Electric Ballroom. What a venue to see them in (first gig I;d seen at the EB since 1987).
I think PiL are great but I was a bit anxious about this one on account of my previous live experiences with the band.
I had seen them three times prior to this:
Brixton Academy 1986 (Album tour)
Kilburn National 1987 (Happy? tour)
Hammersmith Odeon 1989 (9 tour)
The first two gigs were great (the Brixton gig being a bit of a troubled one), but by 1989, live they were shite.... a dreadful gig.
However, my hopes were high as I faced the stage and that logo backdrop (one of the most iconic images to come out of punk I think). I was in no way disappointed (no pun there)by the performance JL and the boys turned in. By just looking at the set, it is clear what an impressive back catalogue PiL have.
My only negative comments would be that the choice of Warriors and USLS1 could have been better and Seattle I would like to have seen in the set. The Lydon collaboration Open Up was brilliant, but World Destruction would heve gone down a treat too.
One final world on the Alife albums, I bought the London show and I have to say that it is one of the slickest packages I have seen, excellently put together and great value (4 discs for £20!). Now that I have burnt the encore, the set is now complete and it stands as a perfect record of one of the best returns ever.
As has been said earlier Stranglers should take note, or as John would say 'Where Are You?'.

Looking forward to this, Lydon's a legend in my eyes
Got to say though much as I enjoyed the PIL gig (one of my gigs of the year without doubt), if it came to making a choice, the Pistols are still my all time No1.

I was at Brixton for the Saturday gig in 2007 (and in Manchester the following Saturday) and was completely blown away. Unfortunately got to admit to not having seen them "Back in the day"C r a s s ! wrote:And their Brixton gig is still my 2nd best gig ever! Re: Public Image Limited!
I'm starting to appreciate the PiL gig (in Manchester) more and more after repeated listens to the recording of the gig. But, I have to say,it's The Pistols that do it,do it every time as far as I'm concerned. The gig @ Brixton Academy 2007 (Sat) was my fave of the last decade. Absolutely stunning!

You can now buy those 4CD sets of the December 09 shows for £15 here;

Well worth the asking price if the Manchester recording is anything to go by
