The past is the past, it's wrong to rip statues down IMHO, change the plaques on statues but don't rip them down. Lt Kudu.

Re: Statues and censoring old songs
Pretty sure they've always played a censored version. Just like they've always done with Peaches.
There might be a point one day though where a new generation are listening to these songs going "What a weird word to use on the rhyme there it doesn't scan at all"

A racist rock eh? How very upsetting!

Yep won’t be long now until all The Stranglers albums will be rereleased with all those “offending” lyrics all changed to suit the idiotic minority who will never listen to them anyway.

I’ve never heard the censored version of ‘Fairy Tale Of New York’ but every time I hear the “offending” version I have always thought it’s just a matter of time when that will probably get banned or an alternative cleaned up version gets played instead.

At the risk of sounding repetitive, how come things like this are calmly sanctioned whilst the likes of Cardi B churns out verbal pornography to youngsters without even a raised eyebrow from the sensitive watchdogs?

Re: Statues and censoring old songs
You should be more worried about sounding thick rather than repetitive. Cardi B's "verbal pornography" (which I'm taking to mean her song WAP) was indeed heavily censored for radio play, including on BBC Radio 1 (the exact station mentioned in the article), so yes those "sensitive watchdogs" indeed "raised (their) eyebrow(s)" ...dronecatcher wrote: ↑19 Nov 2020, 17:02At the risk of sounding repetitive, how come things like this are calmly sanctioned whilst the likes of Cardi B churns out verbal pornography to youngsters without even a raised eyebrow from the sensitive watchdogs?

Because all youngsters really do listen to Radio 1....StanInBlack wrote: ↑19 Nov 2020, 19:52 You should be more worried about sounding thick rather than repetitive. Re: Statues and censoring old songs
The article was regarding censorship of a song within the context of radio play, specifically Radio 1, which - it's worth pointing out - averages an audience of 9m-10m people aged 10+ ... So, while "all youngsters" (your term for a group of people you don't know and have no way of knowing) may not listen to Radio 1, it's fair to see a percentage of them - remarkably - still do. Which makes sense, as Radio 1 is tailored specifically for a younger demographic than Radio 2 or 6music.dronecatcher wrote: ↑19 Nov 2020, 20:38Because all youngsters really do listen to Radio 1....StanInBlack wrote: ↑19 Nov 2020, 19:52 You should be more worried about sounding thick rather than repetitive. By the way, the uncensored version of Fairytale of New York is still available on Youtube, so - as I'm finding is often the case - your point lacks one.
