technical peeps please help : VHS on DVD

Post by evonx »

I have recently copied a stranglers gig from vhs to dvd. We have one of those players that plays VHS and DVD and copies too.
Easy, now I can copy that dvd for a few mates.

However, on the tv it works perfect but my laptop does not recognize that there is something on the disc. How does that work? Any ideas?

What's the make/model of the VHS-DVD recorder?

I have a Panasonic DVD-RAM recorder(I think it also does DVD-R?) that uses DVD_RTAV, .vro files.
Is yours burning to this format?

You have to have a disc drive that can read DVD-RAM in order to get them onto your PC, I have A Samsung SE-S084 portable.

You can then use various programs to add titles/menus etc and output to what is the 'normal' type of dvd files.

Hope this helps?

Sounds like the DVD is not "finalised" ... and depends on the disc type used... you want to copy to DVD-R or DVD+R, so that it becomes playable on all DVD players, using a RAM disc or a non-finalised DR-RW won't work on anything but your recorder.

Would usually be a finalise issue or the laptop being set up with the wrong regional code. I've even heard that DVD laser cleaner can solve these problems as the lasers in the DVD player are not able to scan the disc properly and therefore aren't able to play them (this would be fairly rare though).

I have a LG DVD Recorder ,it will play any disc it has recorded , even if not finalised ,to play the disc on another device it has to be finalised , so give that a go.
