"Vindaloo-v-Madras" : Head to Head.
Vindaloo for me all the time.
I love the Prawn Vindaloo although the take away version can be a bit oily. Do they overdo the oil to keep the dish warm ? I spend the first two minutes draining away the oil but it is tasty.
Thoughts ?

Vindaloo no question, from the Palms of Goa, Charlotte Street. Yum.

Much as I appreciate a bit of heat, would prob prefer something like the chilli masala I ate on Saturday...
Although sometimes may go for something gentler like a classic biryani... Nice thread
Yes, have noticed an excess of oil on some dishes, I did a recipe from Madhur Jaffries a couple of weeks ago that used a lot of oil. It requires you to wait for the oil to rise back to the top before spooning off the excess. All of which is quite time consuming! And the dish was still fairly oily afterward! Maybe they skip this step when preparing curry in a hurry...

Weirdly, I don't like meat dishes in an Indian. My old mate used to take us back to his Mums in New Barnet (He was part Indian, part Ceylonese) and the vegetarian food was superb. So much so that I rarely eat anything else in an Indian.
And I tend to have a Medium dish.

Once upon a time it was always vindaloo for me with a chili pakora starter. These days I can't handle anything over a two chili rating.
Oh the bliss, oh the pleasure caressing your ears.

I love a curry , but haven't had vindaloo in ages - what I do now is ask for something like pathia or dhansak and ask them to do that at vindaloo strength - so you get something that is hot but also tasty as I find vindaloo is just heat but no taste . I have also found that sfter trying some of these mad chili sauces you can now get ( Dave's insanity sauce / ghost pepper and a few others ) that a vindaloo has absolutely no effect on me any more - its about as strong as eating custard - christ knows what I've done to my taste buds etc
All quiet ..........
