Re: Favourite Bass Guitar
First bass I got was a P, for the usual, obvious reasons!
Wasn't a Fender, but a Squire, although it was a custom job.
Kept me happy for a long time, and to me it was always the
"classic bass", but recently got my mitts on the sunburst
Jaguar and "Gothic" Thunderbird as above pics and messing
around with them at the moment.
Would love one of them black semis, like the chaps Hook and Gallup

The Pawn Shop™ Bass VI is actually a deep sounding baritone guitar.

Re: Favourite Bass Guitar
Yup, it differs from a lot of 6-string basses in that it uses E-A-D-G-B-E tuning, instead of the contrabass tuning that most 6-string basses use (B-E-A-D-G-C). Robert Smith is a big user of the Bass VI... those lovely high lead-lines on albums like 'Faith' and 'Disintegration' are actually Bass VI, rather than a guitar. It's also used on the album 'The Top', but more actually in the role of the bass, which shows the versatility of the instrument (it's pretty much a 2-in-1). Both Robert Smith and Simon Gallup (and Porl Thompson and Perry Bamonte when they were in the band too) use Bass VI's live, although not on every song, and yeah, it's very easy to get it confused with a 'standard' guitar when you first see it. Also, The Beatles used a Bass VI on Abbey Road (it was one of the first 6-string basses issued, I think).MiB81 wrote:I don't care, I now want one!Rockula wrote:The Pawn Shop™ Bass VI is actually a deep sounding baritone guitar.

I have a lovely little black Fender Musicmaster Bass that I bought off a lad in my unit when I was in the army. It's about 1976 and plays beautifully. It's much nicer than my Precision Bass.

Musicmaasters are fantastic! I've coveted one for a while. I think Moulding of XTC played one on their early records, great tone.
