People develop political views that are capitalist or socialist and the differences are too fundamental to ever be reconciled. But there should always be at least respect for the opposing view.
Maggie was a proud Briton who did what she thought was right and defended her (our) country both politically and militarily. I think she always showed a respect for her opponents which is not being shown to her memory now that she has died.
For people to rejoice and party at her passing (no matter how you justify it with personal anecdotes about life's injustices attributed to one person) is just plain wrong. Especially so when the people celebrating claim to have a philosophy more caring and humanitarian than their detested enemy,
I doubt Margaret Thatcher would have been perturbed.
She was a warrior.
Rest in Peace, I say.

Whatever anyone may personally think of her political actions.Margaret Thatcher was possibly the most significant post war prime minister.Obviously she divided opinion,but having street parties celebrating her death (Brixton) and others Is just sick IMHO.She was a "Giant" of politics.

Maybe if you had seen some of your family including kids come home bleeding and hurt from the met police just hitting out at anyone and laughing as they did it ( and they wounder why no one had any faith in the police ever since) or had family members and friends put on the dole as the town there factory was in was a labour stronghold you might see the bitch in a different light , I never had a party as such but had a few drinks with friends .
But if you or your family were one of the few you did well from her time I can understand that you wouldn't care less for those that still to this day suffer from her polices .
Maybe you think it was fair that she blamed the fans for the Hillsborough disaster and in no way the fault of the policeman in charge ?

I do understand the pain some of her policies caused especially to the mining communities.But I still think its sick having parties celebrating her death.I wen't off her after the miners strike.

Maggie was in my view evil and the worst thing that ever happend to the working class of the uk.
But she is no differerent to any of the other monsters that have been in power since.
And pop stars and films stars should keep there mouths shut until they themselfs have been voted in power.

Mick, I'm of the opinion that people in Sport and Entertainment are paid far to much, however I really can't agree with your post. You imply Bragg is somehow conspiring to obtain money by making music. That's a strange concept. The truth is most artists earn fuck all, some lucky enough to have the backing of a record company and PR machine generally become successful but not always. The notion then that you can't be a socialist if you have money is a rather juvenile stance. Are we to condemn Tony Benn as a fraud as he has aristocratic roots?

One of the greatest myths that surrounds Thatcher is that she took on the Unions because they "were holding the UK to ransom". Absolute balls, they were maybe holding employers to ransom which is a very different beast. When the Unions were shafted, the country's assets stripped and everything sold off and replaced with a irresponsible and destructive financial sector, it led to utter greed and without anyone to stop them the rates of pay between the executive and the shop floor worker kept widening year after year.

Comparing the excesses of a few hedonistic pop stars in the 80's to the darkest reeking sewers of Thatcherism is rather daft.
