You just saw AN olympic torch go past your house, they are mass produced and each torch bearer gets to keep their torch at the end, there are thousands of them, a massive con.

According to the interview on the radio I heard a while back with one of the organisers, each torch bearer actually gets the option to BUY their torch!!! There are 2000 of them. The whole bloody thing is a farce IMO.

Someone I know was a torch bearer and the deal is each torch bearer can PAY £299 to keep their torch at the end. And they have to pay using a Visa card, because Visa are an Olympic sponsor. Welcome to a future of brand fascism.

My cousins son was a torch carrier, don't think it was £299??? I think each area decided on how much/if anything they had to pay.
Haven't heard if they HAD to pay by Visa or empty Coke Bottles(another Olympic Sponsor) :smt005

Could've saved a fortune by buying a packet of cheap Zippos from Poundland.

I was in bed when it passed near ours, no one seemed to be able to tell what time abouts it would be happening, and so I forgot all about it.

I don't mind the whole fuss though tbh, at least it's produced overall a good positive spirit of community, with the exception of the security 'runners' knocking the crap out of over-enthusiastic civilians wanting to get 'too close' to the torch.
Think I'll go for a stroll in the trees.
