Closure threat to London's 100 Club

Post by jbinblack »

An iconic London cultural heritage landmark is at risk of closing its doors...This is a terrible shame. They're looking for a buyer to save it as the greedy landlords have raised the rent by 45%!

I'll wait to see if any of the bands that have played there put up first???

Yeah, I think just about any band you can name has played there at one time or another. It's like the demise of CBGB's in New York..another landmark gone but still mourned! It just shouldn't happen here either!

Joined the fb group. Only been there the once for the Paul roberts gig in 2007. But it is a landmark in british live music specially for the punk scene, & a should be open always.

This place must survive. Someone I know is trying his best.

As much as I love this place - thinking back especially to July's superb Godfathers gig I was at with NicenSleazy and FenDale - I have to say there's no point propping up the inflated rent the 100 Club have to lay out. It's cruel. They got a rebate last time but the landlords have been adamant there'll be no further leeway. Rent will only go one way, increasing. Drink duty has increased too. VAT is about to go up to 20%. They can't survive, and now this has entered the public forum, bands are loathe to commit to playing in case they close and people get let down. This iconic venue must continue, but at a different place. So long as it retains the name.

Shame on the landlords.

We've got a 100 Club in Leeds, do you think we could declare it as the replacement then if moving the venue isn't that important?
