All the jokes about the new Doctor are firmly rooted in the 1970's

True. Now some of the jokes could be from the 1890's

The series died after Tom Baker or whatever his name was.

Invasion Daleks was great but give it a rest. Boring.

A friend of mine had a theory that you could tell someone's age pretty accurately by their favourite Dr Who. Born in 1960, mine is Tom Baker. A slightly older friend of mine preferred Jon Pertwee.

Well, it's just a theory....

1962 - Patrick Troughton . Theory doesn't add up that much then , 3 of us all roughly the same age but favourite Doc spread over nearly 15 years and 4 different one's .
I am not sure the old stories would stand up much these days , good in their time but probably not aged that well in many cases . Hartnell often forgot or fluffed his lines and that was kept in many of the recordings ( TV was like that then ) . You had terrible sets and often an army of Daleks would consist of a bout 3 . BUT ..... having said that there was fun and excitement if you were a kid , it wasn't politically correct or trying to put a message across , it was of its time and was good back then , still entertaining to watch I've got all the pre McCoy existing stories on video( some not in any way original ) . A lot of the classic Hartnell/Troughton were dumped , the BBC then thought there wasn't any call for repeats - bloody idiots - so a few of the best stories are apparently incomplete or don't exist at all , though over the years more and more have been found .
The old format I don't think would work now either , say 4 x 30 min stories as opposed to 50 min one off's . I don't think people have the time and patience generally to go 4 episodes for a conclusion , plus there's a lot of padding of stories involved , now its more action .
All quiet ..........

I've never been much of a fan of Dr Who, but the "new generation" starting with Christopher Eccleston made me watch it a bit more. I enjoyed him, and David Tennant, but I've not been bothered about any of the later ones. I'll probably watch the new ones, but that might just be because there's never anything else on Saturday night TV.
