Anyone remember Dave Mason - audio book/conventions etc?
I have got to know a really great guy here in Bath called Dave Mason who works for TV and is a keen fan of The Stranglers past and present (and indeed is well known to them all individually). He has helped us with our video work etc and is always really happy to chat all-things-Strangled with me when I see him.
It was only while chatting to him the other day that I realised how deep his involvement with the band is and I wonder if anyone remembers him or his work? He told me about how he did an audio history of the band early in the 1990s which was available on a CD which sold, somewhat even to his surprise, quite a lot by all accounts. It would have been in the post 1990 world I think but he has storng links with Hugh as well and his 'fanship' goes back a long way.
He also recalled selling the CD book at various Strangler conventions and he told me how he and Marian Shepherd had hosted Stranglers TV (the Pontins tv channel) at Weston and how he also hosted many events during that weekend.
He is a really nice guy who has spent a lot of time following and helping The Stranglers profile-wise (he had a big hand in them appearing on GMTV and also brought Paul Roberts to Bath for a gig last year. He also played me a cutting of a film he did for a travel show for GMTV in Africa where the background music was Too Precious!)
I am sure he would be delighted if anyone remembers him (or his CD 'book') so let me know if it all rings a bell.....

His 2xCD set came out in 2001 and was called:
"Rock 'n' Roll according to the meninblack: the story of the Stranglers" by Dave Mason. I found it in a used record fair at Shire Hall Chelmsford several years back. It's very good. Session tracks at the end include Lucky Finger, 'The' Face and Paradise Row.
Give him a kiss from all his fans when you see him next Sam!

This was for sale on cassette through SIS - I have an official one myself in the loft somewhere - quite in-depth.
The session tracks mentioned where part of his radio show City FM - There's a really tasty Hugh session that he did in which Hugh turns a load of his songs into Lou Reed stylings.

Coincidently I made mention of the cassette in another thread a few days ago. I picked mine up at the New Cross convention all those years ago, and its very interseting listening.
I tried to make him laugh, He didn't get the joke, and then he said I wasn't right in the head.
