I assume they have railcards. Rail travel is not the sort of thing you can do on a whim these days, unfortunately.

When travelling by train between Denmark and Germany, there is the Puttgarten/Rodby ferry crossing.

The train drives onto the ferry. You leave your stuff in the train and enjoy the crossing on deck.

Done it a few times. Highly recommended.
