Another Gig List

Jim,
Haven't had time to really scrutinise this yet, but might be useful to cross-reference with your gig list.

According to Punk Diary 1970-1982 -

Johnny Sox - Brecknock in London 12-01-74.

Listed The Newlands gig under 17-01-74 with accompanying ad and states 'Last Saturday they played the Brecknock...'

Also can confirm that, if interested, the support act for Belfast 07-09-78 was Rain.
Allow me to re-arrange your face, sometimes I'd really like to get to know you better

I've always had a problem about the listing for the Falkirk gig in 1977.
I have a limited tape of what is supposed to be this gig (only a few tracks exist), however I have a mate who was @ this gig & it was definitley 1978, not '77.
The tape I have quotes the gig as August 1977. Jim's gig listing is 13th Feb. 1977.
Said mate recalled that the gig was advertised for Maniqui's (behind the Bus Station) as The Skids + support, but it turned out to be a 'secret' Stranglers gig with The Skids on 1st & Stranglers on last.
This would tie in with the dates played in May 1978 on the Black & White tour (Friday 26th & Sunday 28th) @ the Glasgow Apollo where The Skids were the Support Act.
Whilst I have no confirmed date for this gig, I'd reason that it's a fair bet that it would have been on the Saturday (27th May), between the two Apollo gigs.
Jim's gig listing has this date as Clouds Disco, Edinburgh.
This date is not correct. The Clouds gig was a 'secret' gig in January 1978. I have an NME cutting from Jan. 1978 which proves this, also local DJ Billy Sloan recalls in an article that it was in the depths of Winter & hundreds of fans locked outside of the venue. I've a review of the Clouds gig somewhere in the vaults.

Hope this helps.
That's finally off my chest after a number of years.

Steveareno.

The band's 1st Scottish gig was @ Strathclyde University in Glasgow in December 1976 (don't know exactly which date, but if Edinburgh was the 13th, Glasgow was probably the 12th).
The Union had booked Ian Gillan's band, however they pulled out @ the last minute & 'The Stranglers' were booked as their replacement.
The hippies didn't care much for our boys, especially as they were expecting Gillan. The band ended up baricading themselves in the dressing room whilst angry punters tried to beat a way in.
Whenever I walk past the Uni. Union (I was once a student there), I always try & imagine the old ice cream van outside.
The venue is up on the 6th Floor, so the boys would have had their work cut out hiking the kit up the stairs - what with Jet & his bad back !
