So how many gigs have YOU seen?

Post by saminblack » 11 Dec 2005, 11:50

I thought I was doing pretty well with my 49 treks to see the Stranglers but when I mentioned this in print I received an email from a Paul in Banbury (who I assume is on here somewhere) caling me a 'lightweight' and saying he was up to 160. Can anyone beat that?

So this got me thinking. How many times have you all seen the mighty MIB. Time for my first ever poll methinks...

Do you know I haven't got a clue. I think it is over a hundred but my missus reckons nearer 200..but I really can't see that myself. However, I don't think it matters that much. I recently took a friend to see them at Yeovil who had been a fan since 1977, got all the albums etc, but had never seen them live..it just wasn't something they did. Needless to say that they thoroughly enjoyed it and are looking forward to a gig next year, but it would have to be local.

Seeing them more than hundred times is almost a bid OCD'ish. I was asked at work how many times I'd seen them and it was quite embarrassing. Unless you are talking to someone else who is into music and understands why, it is difficult to get over the reasons why you do it. That's why I would never have a go at someone who watches the Sound Of Music repeatedly. It's just the same sort of thing really..particulalrly as there is a connection between Julie Andrews and the Stranglers.

72 times since 1981.
Enjoyed those earlier gigs with Hugh the best as I was a teenager back then and it was just so exciting & crazy.
:-)

Btw I have a list of all the gigs I have been to since 1981 and it's currently at 720 or something. Yeah Im a sad fucker I know for keeping a list but I don't care!

31 times in all, so I'm a bit of a lightweight myself...

mk I = 19 times (6 gigs with JE, mk I and a half)
mk II = 9
mk III = only 3

... I used to have lunch regularly in Dave's pub when I was working in St Ives...does this count?

59 times so far since '79. Mind you 3 years were spent living in Spain and 15 living in Ireland.

Arthur you certainly aren't sad for beign a listmeister- in fact I envy you.

I used to be the ultimate list keeper - charts, gigs, most played songs etc - and I used to get back home after every gig I saw and record the tracklist and my memories of every show. When I got married I decided this sort of thing ought to stop because I was all 'grown up' now so not only did I stop listing everything in detail - but I threw all that lovingly crafted stuff away.

THE Worst mistake I ever made.

I now struggle to even remember my own names at time and I would dearly love to see all that stuff again. I have worked out at a rough/educated guess that I have seen 49 Stranglers shows but it may be well more than that (it certainly aint less).

Oh for my lists back!!!
