Straighten Out CD

Post by Fatbusjim »

Full info on the bands imminent (4th April) can now be found on the Straighten Out news page:

http://straighten-out.co.uk/latestnews.html
The CD will be on sale on Monday 4th April priced £8.00 (sterling) plus £2.00 delivery costs.
Methods of ordering will appear soon...
This is a stunning tribute by Straighten Out to ten of The Stranglers' awesome album tracks - all tracks featured on this compilation were never released as singles and as such this CD is one for the real aficionados yet also for those wishing to discover the hidden gems of the songs that weren't usually afforded airplay time. An additional surprise, for Straighten Out fans, is the inclusion of 'The Man They Love To Hate'. This hasn't been performed at their gigs so far but on hearing this track it's abundantly clear that it matches their usual high standards and should feature in the band's forthcoming gigs of 2011...! 'Black and Live' bursts into life with Casey's pounding drumbeat and Mick's eerie vocals on 'Peasant in the Big Shitty'...inbetween we have the beautiful 'Baroque Bordello' with Phil's intricate guitar work and expressive voice, the dual vocal onslaught from Shaggy and Phil on 'Curfew', the 'love song' of the 20th Century 'Bring on the Nubiles' (!), their finest version of 'The Raven' (the recording studio capturing Shaggy's softer vocal tones without him having to compete with the usual raucous crowds at gigs!), and the album climaxes with the eternal crowd-pleaser 'Down in the Sewer'...Straighten Out have now constructed their own aural sculpture for us to enjoy and added it to the awesome landscape from whence the material was mined - The Stranglers, the precious ore at the core of all the original masterpieces and to whom Straighten Out do immense justice with this homage...An imitation, in the true sense of the word, but there's nothing fake about these guys, you'll know what I mean...'Black and Live' is a celebration of classic tunes, performed by four very accomplished musicians and Stranglers fans, for everyone to cherish...high integrity and top quality...
I'm told that a Paypal account is being set up for those that prefer to use it.

If the samples are anything to go by the album should be well worth a listen. And good luck with it too..
Its good to see that they are playing a couple of dates in Scotland later on in the year. However any chance of playing somewhere nearer the central belt? Leslie is a good drive to get too..
Punk could be the first step towards Utpoia

Heard a couple of tracks on Shaggys Ipod in Brum, the answer is OH YES!
