My gripe as well! I don't like this "your reference number is your ticket" palava. Oh, for the good old days

Well, when I say a proper ticket, I mean a numbered card with the venue's logo and dotted lines for them to fill in the date, band name and price in biro!

Only reason I got this was because a mate went to the venue on Sunday night and picked it up for me - otherwise it would have been the 'on-line receipt' for me too.

Still prefer the hand-written card though - I feel safer with an actual ticket I can hand over. Call me old-fashioned!
