If someone feels strongly enough to write in detail about someone's lyrics then for me that isn't pretentious. But it's not my cup of tea really, I mean, Strangled mag did a great job of explaining what certain songs were about and I usually enjoyed discovering the band's thoughts on things, but I'm not that interested really. I generally don't give a feck about artistes' politics as long as they're not offensive with their preaching. If I want to hear sexist and graphic shite then I go to the football, and if I want to hear racist, right wing xenophobia then... well actually I don't ever want to hear that shit, especially in song :P

It's sure to be interesting a read, it's just not THAT interesting to me personally. I wish it well and I will be buying it, at some stage, you can never have too much literatureinblack
'Peaches - A Chronicle of The Stranglers from 1974 to 1990', out 2014 on Soundcheck Books.

Think I'll go for a stroll in the trees.

Ostensibly because they weren't ever a 'Punk' band, although they fitted in nicely with the 'New Wave' tag.

Mine's arrived today, and just going by the back cover this sounds well interesting,
focusing on that old bugbear of the true fan - why have the Hairy Danglers been written
out of (punk) rock history?

can't wait.... :smt006

Reading those blogs it sounds like the author has too much time on his hands. The bit that said Hugh Cornwell is a real life woman beater, is a bit overstepping the mark though, and if i was Hugh and i read that i would be annoyed. In song by song Hugh said "I could smell sex on her, so i slapped her". A slap to the face is not as if he hit her. He was hurt by what she did to him, so he reacted, not that i am for it. But he didn't hit her with his fists.

Think i will pass on this thanks.

Pidge, not meaning any offence mate because I know you don't condone violence, but that's crap - he slapped her so it's an assault, and on a woman it's worse.

Doesn't make him a misogynist.

Remember Hugh's comments about JJ pushing him through that 'paper thin' wall? JJ seemed to think, possibly still does, that it was trivial, not serious and not damaging. Physically, it wasn't, but it apparently unnerved HC to such an extent he couldn't trust JJ anymore to not overreact or to keep his self-control. And that's what a 'simple slap' can feel like to a woman, or anybody, that it won't have hurt but it will have crossed a line.
