Re: New keyboard player
There is no such thing as "The Stranglers sound". It has changed from year to year, from album to album, from tour to tour. Even in the early days with the 4 originals. Of course there is. It's the common thread that runs through pretty much everything that MKI did and why Rattus Norvegic...

Re: New keyboard player
Does that mean you haven’t seen the late 70s/early 80s Stranglers, or even the late 80s MkI?, or the Baz or Jim line-ups? If so, your comparisons and criticism of the The Stranglers live really has no creditability. I mean that it's irrelevant. If it ain't Hugh Cornwell, JJ Burnel, Dave Greenfield ...

Re: French Tour Set Opener....
Sir you just have to accept Jim is not Jet and never will be, he hits the drums so much harder and has tub thumping sticks which are 3A,but he gives the band alot of energy, and does some nice little Cymbal touches, I watch with scrutiny what he does and I see things I'm not happy with but I'm bein...

Re: Vive Le Rock #88
Bands are not like football teams where you can just change members endlessly and expect it to the same thing. The Stranglers have more than exceeded their shelf life by 30 years in the eyes of the majority.
Football players in a team change, but no the team doesn't just do the sam...

Re: New keyboard player
I'm not going to be watching it in the first place, but thanx. Oh, go on Stan, you will just love JJs dancing to Stallion again here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAubvsE-fg8 Even JJ knows its dodgy as fuck, but is still having a good laugh about it. Sir if I look as nimble as JJ at 69 I will be ...

Re: New keyboard player
Sure some of his Stranglers "rearrangements" are OK, a few I could even say have even been pretty good, but there's no comparison between the 2 sets he plays, for me his own set is so much better overall. I imagine it's difficult to hear someone playing Stranglers stuff with a different a...

Re: New keyboard player
Are you of the belief Hugh wrote JJ’s baselines, Dave’s keyboard riffs, Jets drum patterns.? Basslines, keyboard riffs and drum patterns fall under the category of "arrangement", which is why Herbie Flowers doesn't get a co-writing credit for Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side" ....

Re: New keyboard player
If only he had the guitar skills to be guitar led. Great composer of guitar parts within a band, but not robust or dare I say interesting enough in the three piece setup. He does, and a "three piece setup" *is* a band. Hugh obviously has guitar skills, and is a totally unique composer and...

Re: New keyboard player
I would prefer a Hugh gig with all his own material So would I. Not because I think the does Stranglers songs badly (his live version of "Bear Cage" is incredible) or that he shouldn't be playing them (he has every right to play them since he wrote them), but because those Stranglers clas...

Re: New keyboard player
Hugh should probably hire Toby for his next tour, give it that bigger sound? For my own ears, 1992-2004 was pretty patchy at best, but still produced more songs that I was interested in, than HAC. Once Norfolk Coast came along however, the band stopped trying to rewrite old songs and pushed ...

Re: Lyon
What a waste of a minute . Did the rest of the band pop out for a piss , or a quick sip of water ? There's footage of them doing it on Youtube and it's about as dire as you'd expect. Looks like they're at an open mic night. I think I would rather not , take your word for it . I just can't see the p...

Re: New keyboard player
To be fair to the band and to add some well needed balance here people have been enjoying these gigs. I also think this set of dates are a bit of a warm up to the UK tour. Jim Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk Yes your right, people have been enjoying the gigs, but we expect such high standards,...
