Re: damned reunion
Dave and Brian still talk and get on o.k. They've done joint interviews about 'New Rose' in recent months. They did one at The 100 Club last July on the day that 'Brian James & Friends' played the venue. Rat played on the night but Dave didn't. So, three original members were in the same place, ...

Re: "The Clash" became what they wanted to replace?
'Straight To Hell' is not a great film. Director Alex Cox's 'Repo Man' and 'Walker' are far superior. It makes no more and no less sense than some of the cheap Spaghetti Westerns that influenced it. It did however directly influence Tarantino; especially the sharp-suited hitmen who were virtual temp...

Maybe Buzzcocks could record it as a follow up to the song 'Virtually Real' from their last album...

Re: "The Clash" became what they wanted to replace?
I was a Clash fan from Day 1 and still am. But, as with all the bands I like, I tend to concentrate on the music rather than following all the tittle-tattle and chat about internal squabbles and arguments. Sometimes you get drawn into conversations and then realise you are rarely going to change ano...

They ARE very theatrical.zontar wrote:Am no authority, but they appeared to focus their talents as a stage act rather than studio unit. Their set included elaborate props and topless tootsies.

Re: don letts - skinhead documentary
'Punk', 'Oi!' and 'Street Punk' are all mightily mixed up these days. There are many influenced by the likes of 'Sham 69', 'Cockney Rejects' and 'Cocksparrer'. But don't forget that 'Angelic Upstarts', one of the most Left Wing, Anti-Nazi punk bands also got lumped in with the 'Oi!' thing and a lot ...

Re: The Tubes
For a 'beginner' I would suggest the 2008 2-CD compilation called 'Goin' Down'.
34 tracks covering all eras.
Then, depending which tracks 'speak' to you (or not as may be), you'll know what complete albums to investigate.

Re: don letts - skinhead documentary
In the late 70's mostly around 1979 I was living in Romford. There were 'true' Skinheads who hung around with the punks and I had no problem with them at all. But the rise in the numbers of 'Bonehead' gangs became a problem. One night in 1979, returning home from a gig at The Marquee, I got to Romfo...

Re: Interview with Ruts DC
Good interview, thanks for sharing. I have mer Leigh before a Stranglers gig in Guildford a couple of years ago. So what other Rut albums are worthwhile listening to?. All of them. But 'Rhythm Collision' (1982) and 'Rhythm Collision Volume 2' (2013) will only be of interest if, like me, you love re...

Re: Interview with Ruts DC
Thanks Adrian. When is someone going to do a proper interview with Leigh Heggarty? I know Adrian linked to his blog some years ago but it's time he got to talk about all the stuff he's been doing since the 1980's. I mean he's been working with Segs and Dave since 2007 and he's still treated like 'th...
