Re: 1970's toys/games

I always remember Sid James's "Derby Day" a kind of mechanical fire the ball in the hole which will move the horse along the track, game. Excellent stuff then but would be just rubbish now. Treasure of the Pharoahs, Haunted House, Escape from Colditz, these are the board game I remember

Just got the 1990 edition of the Shamen's En-Tact on CD (as opposed to the more common 1991 version with the more commercial mixes) and have got the big headphones on. nice. I agree, it's a good album that and I remember it fondly. Going to dig my copy out! Currently listening to a lot of (now demi...

The Clash. Just seen the history of the Clash on telly and I just don't get it. Never did. Just don't understand what all the fuss was about.

Re: New Order

We were talking about this in the pub the other week, the guys I spoke to were happier going to see Hooky's new band than this version of New Order. But Hooky's not playing as/under the JD or NO banner, he's just playing their songs. Gillian is back in the NO lineup so it's -1 and +1. Hooky out, Gi...

Re: New Order

Big fan of NO and JD. I think NO's recent material is is less substantial that the old classic stuff, but that's familiar ground for us lot isn't it! (That said, Giants is wonderful). Some of my fave ever songs are JD/NO...Shadowplay, Transmission, Bizzare Love Triangle, Age of Consent, The Eternal...

I'm a huge fan on Cohen. He's brill, such fine songs, especially the earlier ones. Dance me to end of love is one of my all time faves, as is Avalanche, as is...

Re: The Beta Band

Totally agree, seen them live a couple of times and they were terrific. The first album was bit all over the place but the Three Ep´s and Hot Shots II were both excellent. Yeah, I do too. Love the Beta band. Loved that bit in High Fidelity too... Yes, John Cusack was playing "Dry The Rain"...

Re: Things you see that get you thinking......

Interesting. Not sure where it stops though, as there's the story of Hugo Boss designing SS uniforms. But I think that is just probably an urban myth. What got me thinking this last couple of days...How ugly is the new shape mini? I don't know how they can call it a mini! Really tall and ugly. Also ...
