Re: CLASH LIVE @ ROXY 1977

Well, I got to the end of this. I must say the most interesting bits for me were the street scenes - being a bit of a classic car fan I'm always looking out for what's parked in the background with films from that era - I wasn't expecting to see the Clash stood next to an early Vauxhall Firenza with...

Re: CLASH LIVE @ ROXY 1977

I recorded this and as I started watching it the other day I wondered if the recorder had malfunctioned. Eventually the band appeared so I figured not. Hard going though, not sure I can be bothered sitting through all of it.

Re: daniel craig as bond

To be fair, they didn't have much choice in dumping the only proper Q. John Cleese was a bit too daft for my liking, and there's a reasonable argument that the gadgets department now might be staffed by much younger people because of the nature of the products required - guns are almost an afterthou...

Re: Jon Lord RIP

That doesn't surprise me - I was thinking that if Deep Purple wanted to tour with surviving members, it could be good pocket money for Dave as JL's stand-in.

Re: Blondie and ELO at Hyde Park

I don't really know much more Bob, other than what I've read on Wikipedia just now. Mik Kaminski does seem to have been in ELO from 73-86, and now you've mentioned his name of course I recognise it. Bev Bevan apparently went to play drums for Black Sabbath for a while. I'm not that surprised to see ...

Re: Blondie and ELO at Hyde Park

E L O a truly shit band i would rather watch paint dry or listen to all of written in red then watch that concert On this occasion, I give you my full permission to not watch it then. The only previous member of ELO that I know anything of is the one who was killed several years ago when a hay bale...

Re: Jon Lord RIP

BBC4 have shown the "Made in Japan" documentary a few times just recently, that's been quite interesting and reminds me that I need to stick some more DP on my player in the car. Quite an interesting programme, talking about the transformation from the original line-up and the departure of...

Blondie and ELO at Hyde Park

Anyone else watch this last night on the red button? There were some other acts on earlier in the day, including potential Stranglers lead singer Chrissie Hynde (I wonder if anyone has ever asked her for her side of that story?) and some others I forget now. Blondie weren't bad, though I dislike the...

Re: lily allen orlando sept 10th

I used to quite like Erasure - I've got a recording I taped off the radio many years ago of them doing a gig somewhere, and it's pretty good. I remember a rumour that The Stranglers were going to support them somewhere but I don't recall it ever happening.

Re: mEt@££iC@ dropped from Glasto Festival

blondie was quite good I watched most of that, sound quality was awful (considering they'd had time to mix it, weren't they on quite early?) and there's a lot of faffing around, isn't there? Lots of bits of drum solos and stuff. Compare it to a Stranglers gig (OK, I'm biased) and it would be a much...

Re: Stranglers Stuff in unexpected places...

Standing in the pub a couple of weeks ago I overheard a bloke I know as a nodding acquaintance only saying he was having a 'retro night' - turned out he was going to the Birmingham Academy gig, he'd seen the band many times but never since Hugh left. Then last Saturday saw him again, he mentioned th...

Re: ructions in the big country camp

Playing on Good Friday night at the Nantwich Jazz and Blues Festival. Or not. Turns out they actually played on Friday March 21st - I presumed it was the Friday of the Easter festival because it was in the festival brochure. Having a converstion on Saturday night it turns out it was actually a coup...
