Re: Bands that you just can't take to.

I see where you are coming from with Oasis, The Who and Led Zeppelin, not with the Manics though. I think they've done some great stuff over the years but I know some people hate them! Hate is too strong a word, it’s more they don’t interest me enough. I don’t like the way they sing, and a lot of t...

Re: Bands that you just can't take to.

Eric Clapton, the daft racist superb call! To be fair to Eric he did that drunk fuelled racist rant some years ago,if he did that now it would be end of his career,it shows how Racist this country was then that his career survived, irony is that his fave music is Black Blues,he did apologize but it ...

Re: Bands that you just can't take to.

I agree about Plant I cant stomach his whiny Hyena vocals, and I never got Zeppelin,I always feel I'm the only one who doesn't like them, but the Who did some great music and were a cracking live band,I also agree about Oasis possibly the dullest And most overrated band ever,Liam isnt so bad but Noel...

Re: The Clash vs The Stranglers

Yes that's a good point. But fair play to JJ on that account because the weird stuff between The Raven and Feline is my favourite and I doubt that would have ended up the same if the first three albums had been really big in America. I'm not even sure I could name an "american radio" song...

Re: The Clash vs The Stranglers

Yes it certainly can be a bit whiny, particularly on some of the Big Audio Dynamite stuff I find. Supermarket's not bad, I probably like that one more now than I did years ago. The other one of his I like on Sandanista is "Up In Heaven (Not Only Here)", that's a good tune. yes I reckon th...

Re: Bands that you just can't take to.

One could put all the obvious ones; Oasis, massive bores, with absolutely zero original about them and spelled the death knell of Indie music actually being something alternative to the mainstream. I find the personalities of Oasis especially unlikeable, I suppose Liam seems slightly more likeable, ...

Re: The Clash vs The Stranglers

Yes I agree. I remember the first time I listened to Police On My Back as a snotty teenager the day I got Sandanista, it was exciting at the time because I thought it sounded like a "proper" Clash song... That novelty soon wore off though and it's now one I usually skip. I think Somebody ...

Re: The Clash vs The Stranglers

I like a lot of the Mick ones but there's definitely some dodgy stuff, particularly early on. I've always really disliked "1 2 Crush on You" especially. I find it really cringy. Mick Jones' best work was on Sandinista for my money. Oh that is a clunker, one I hopefully don’t need to hear ...

Re: The Clash vs The Stranglers

Jake, just wanted to say your posts over the past couple of days have been a breath of fresh air. Some really interesting and excellent points made. Definitely agree on Clash albums being patchy and none that I would say were five stars either, although I like a very large number of Clash songs. Ho...

Re: The Clash vs The Stranglers

I mean it’s the stranglers obviously The Clash had good songs, it’s taken me a good decade to contemplate listening to again, due to the fact their songs remind me too much of fake toxic people who hide behind the supposed message of The Clash. Played the first album for the first time in ages back ...

Re: Wilko Johnson RIP

Having personally known Wilko all my life as an adopted uncle, the most fun and generous guy a kid could have been around, he was really there for me when my old man died during childhood, I can truly say that Wilko was one of a kind. I’d also say what you saw on stage, the intensity he projected, h...

Re: Dark Matters Vs Suite XVI

Think it's got to be Suite for me. I know I keep banging on about it but She's Slipping Away is one of the all time greats and nothing on Dark Matters can beat it, as much as I like it. Norfolk Coast is still the best of the Baz albums though, and Giants is easily the least best. I can’t disagree w...
