Surely they were sensational, rather than phenomenal? :)

Re: 2 versions of UB40 oh dear how sad.

for those that don't get that , his impersonation of a black man singing That annoys me, as well. But then it annoyed me when the bloke from Ruts DC put on a similar accent for some of their songs when I saw them supporting The Stranglers a few years back. I don't really like UB40, it's not my kind...

Re: Pubs/beer.

I went to the pub on Saturday night, and on Sunday lunchtime for lunch with parents, and on Sunday evening. The lunchtime one was the quietest - I really wonder how they can survive if it continues as quietly as it was on Sunday, but perhaps that's just because it was the first weekend and people wi...

Re: Glastonbury

I haven't seen that video before, but it pretty much confirms that the reason you don't see them on the BBC is that it wasn't filmed. There are static cameras below the front of stage, but I imagine that's for the big video screens either side - there didn't seem to be anyone on stage filming.

Re: Best MUSIC books read

Doesn't even have to be about anyone I'm a major fan of either, usually. Me too, and the same for documentaries (which is a good thing, given the continued delay of the Stranglers one). Most of the band biographies I've read have been quite poor, though, not a patch on the quality of "No Mercy...

Re: indoor positioning system technology

On the face of it, it sounds similar to the idea of the track and trace app that is being talked about - using Bluetooth to decide how close you've come to another person / device with the app. Adding in gyroscope and so on should increase accuracy. Do they have some kind of demo / trial you can hav...

Re: Last book read

I've just finished the new John Grisham, "The Guardians", very good but quite a few stories merged into the single book which is reasonably unusual for him.

Re: Your Last Gig

Stranglers, Manchester Apollo 2019. We don't have any music venues locally, so I only tend to go and see bands I already know I like. I used to look at the list of who was on at Liverpool Academy because there's a train back at a decent time, with the intention of trying out some other bands, but I ...

"A brush with death" by Quintin Jardine. Another by an author I haven't read for a while, and it was very good indeed, as his always are.

Re: FACEBOOK - 'don't like'.

In the last few days I've been reminded of a few of the less pleasant aspects of Facebook. 1. People who call out other Facebook users for not expressing their grief on the site. 2. Similarly, people who call out other Facebook users for not being effusive enough in their expression of grief. I can'...

Re: Music Industry Nicknames

Isn't it only Rod Stewart that refers to Elton John as "Sharon"? Elton calls Rod "Phyllis", apparently, when they phone each other up to chat. Hugh apparently used to give nicknames to people, Chrissie Hynde-leg was one, and Loose Windscreen was Bruce Springsteen. I can't imagine...
