Re: Tour Epitaph

Anyhow, I take comfort in the fact that when the band is long over, it'll be 1977-1990 that'll be remembered, just like it is now. Nobody is going to remember any of this JJ Burnel & Friends bollocks or treat it with any reverence or relevance. It's already irrelevant to most in the present day...

AC/DC are also a joke now, but then again I'd argue that they always were.

Re: Tour Epitaph

It may very well have been a few evenings of Stranglers music competently performed by JJ Burnel and three other guys, but that doesn't make it The Stranglers. Calling it so requires a real stretch of the imagination and a colossal amount of mental gymnastics. Looking at pictures of the band now rem...

Re: RAH

They should get a group of people assembling some sort of Ikea cabinet as an opening act next. It'd sound the same. I suppose the main feature would be worried about being blown offstage, though.

Re: Bristol

Now wait! I have a thought! Stranglers and friends. Bring on some fans or fellow artists to fill the rolls!!! Given that JJB&F fans don't seem to care who is in the band these days as long as the songs get sung, they should get either JJ or Toby to sing everything. Or even Jim. The crowd would ...

Re: 50th Anniversary Setlist?

kenl wrote: 14 Mar 2024, 22:43 it is definitely written somewhere that the concept was Hugh's idea about the album sleeve.
The concept of the sleeve is pretty much a representation of the concept of the album. The Last Supper with the man in black, the meeting of the biblical with the extraterrestrial.

kenl wrote: 14 Mar 2024, 21:44 Jet was the driving force behind the MiB idea.
He may have been the initial spark of inspiration due to the literature he was reading, but it was Hugh that moulded those disparate ideas of UFOs and bible stories into the concept. Unless you're suggesting Jet wrote the lyrics, which he didn't.

Or so it's claimed. It could be strongly argued that the band basically grew out of Hugh's old band.
