Re: Strangler in the light

My conclusion: Hugh needed JJ, Jet and Dave to make his dream/band come true. Hugh was surprised how much he needed JJ -for musical and image/agitation reasons. JJ needed Hugh. JJ could not cut it alone (see solo efforts - laudable but not great) JJ was lost when he lost Hugh. JJ leaned on Paul and ...

Re: Setlist sludge

Never happy, moan moan moan. I hear you and I'm glad they are doing it and doing it well. Just making an observation. It's get eye rollingly annoying to hear the 'we change it up every night ' routine . I just wish they would a) mix a few things up b) even mix up the same but in a different order b...

Setlist sludge

So, looks like the 'we change it every night' that seemed a reasonable call at the start of the tour, has kinda hit some mud? Now it seems to be which 2 of /or 3 in the second encore.... And Guildford saw the demise of 'Baroque Bordello' as a lovely side dish from the obvious. Oh well. Wonder what e...

Re: French Tour Set Opener....

I am completely inspired by a band wanting to get out there and play, especially with a leader who's nearly 70. I am not inspired by that setlist as a 'final tour' set. It's a greatest hits set - which I totally understand as a base of 'have to plays' - no have no issue with that. A few from the ver...

Re: Dark Matters - Initial Thoughts/Reviews

The thing about Nosferatu and Euroman Cometh is that even though they're solo albums, they BOTH make sense as transitional albums in between what The Stranglers were doing on Black and White and The Raven. They fit snugly into the continuum of what the band were doing. By the time of Wolf, Hugh's h...

Re: Dark Matters Phase Inversions

Love Baz's twiddly bits in the chorus on NML. Hear quite a bit more of Dave's work too. Intriguing. And thanks.

Wayne's World

Uh-oh, here comes Wayne, cricking those fingers in anticipation....this is pretty interesting - some guitar and keyboard flourishes that I hadn't detected....if you go to his site he's cranked on 5-6 of the new songs. Interesting stuff.

Re: Dark Matters - Second Thoughts

Settling in in Shah Towers now too. Water, NML, WS are the stand outs to me. Can't get the NML chorus out of my head - wish there were more instrumental breaks - I could see Dave cutting loose for a re run of the chorus chords without the words... This Song is great in the spirit of S16 pop ditties....
