Yeah it had some merit at the time but the last laugh goes to Depeche Mode!
Haha that’s a good one, Depeche Mode have definitely made some classic songs with good musicianship 8)

Re: Depeche Mode

As I recall it, he referred to "Depeche Mode or thereabouts" with several keyboard players playing with two fingers, and "oh, but Dave Greenfield's got ten fingers". That might have been in the first Strangled I ever received, but I can't remember which issue it was, I'm certain...

Re: Depeche Mode

If I remember correctly, Hugh mentioned Depeche Mode as a band "playing with two fingers" (or something like that) in an interview, maybe for Strangled magazine. Will have to look out for that. I wonder what Hugh thought of the “Fire & Water” album by a couple of his band mates. I man...

Re: Re-releases

Sir the c.nts who reviewed Stranglers albums didn't even listen to them most of the time,Feline is pure class, and I won't even say IMHO as I usually do,it's class end of.Major Sheerhan. No argument here. I know at least one fan of the stranglers who grew up in the punk era that refuses to acknowled...

Have never heard this, is there further information?

I don’t mind DM in moderation, not much interest in listening to new material though

Re: Re-releases

Feline is Hugh at his peak, some will clearly disagree, I read a review, can’t recall if it was from the time, but they were complaining how bored and moaning he sounded, not my take. On Feline Hugh sounds very English and distinctly not in the least bit American, not that he ever did, which is some...

Re: Baz's side project - WINGMEN

Sir I admit when I'm wrong,I may have to buy the album, and i would see them live but to far for me,I saw some footage and it looked good,Baz had his Andy Cap hat on and brown leather jacket, such great musicians in the band,it shows Baz could have a career outside of the Stranglers,he seemed more na...

Re: Baz's side project - WINGMEN

Yep - even though the songs are "a bit ranty" I can only agree with their sentiments Jim I totally agree with Baz the Brexit vote, not gonna lie, alright song actually The NHS one is a blinder, too radical for the stranglers perhaps? I think it’s something even most Tory voters would find...

Re: Acoustic album

Half of DM wax acoustic, ok it wasn’t but it kind of was, The Lines on my face, I could gladly never hear that track again. I haven’t heard Laid Black, it’s quite hard to find these days, I couldn’t say if it was any good, I imagine it was alright, their acoustic set in London 2005 was one of the be...

Re: The Cure

That seems fair enough to me; the height of The Cure is definitely the distinct trio of albums; Seventeen Seconds, Faith and Pornography, I like most of Kiss Me, at least half of Disintegration is a great album, anything that’s come since hasn’t really registered. I do maintain The Cure had a solid ...

Re: Terry Hall RIP

WTF

sad news indeed.

The Specials first album is something that’s always been in my life from very early memories, one of the first bits of music to make an impression on me.
